3 in the am.

Track workout in the afternoon. Some pretty short but really quick repeats. Pretty nice weather at the start but it got a bit chilly toward the end. Around 7 total for the workout I think.

5 miles on a trail out off of Red Hills Parkway by Dixie Rock. Felt pretty good. Weather was nice for most of the run, but a little cold at the end like yesterday.

4 easy in the afternoon out past Hidden Valley. Did some starts afterwards, my Pegasus have no traction on the track when trying to start fast! Slipped pretty good on the 3rd one, haha.

Race day, so we took the morning off. We all ran the mile today. We did our warm up and some strides and I felt pretty good. It wasn't a qualifying meet, so I figured no one was going to run for time, just place, so my plan was just to tuck in and try to stay on the inside for the first few laps without letting the leaders get too far ahead of me, then use my kick on the last lap. The gun wouldn't fire for like the first 3 times so it took a while to start the race. Well the race went out exactly how I thought it would, and I tucked into about 5th or 6th place, pretty slow through 400, 1:12, and 800, 2:22, then we started to pick it up as people tried to get into position for the final lap, not sure what the split was for that lap. Ike and Josh ended up getting just a little too far out of my reach and I didn't have enough race left to beat them. I should've moved up a little more on the third lap, because I think I would've won had I been a little closer with 300 left. Not sure on the time, but I think someone said around 4:35, I will update it though when I figure out the official time. Pretty fun race even if it was a little slow. I felt relaxed and smooth so that was good. 2 miles tempo-ish afterwards, nothing too fast, then a mile cool down. Good day, fun to get back into racing.

Ran the Dirty Hurty Half Marathon today. Pretty sweet race, the trails out there are awesome. They shuttled us down from Unity Park to the starting line at about 5:45, and the race didn't start until 6:30, so we had to freeze our b*tts off for a little bit. We started the race off pretty chill, we ran behind Coach Fielding and Coach Holt until we hit the single track and I took the lead because they were doing the 50k and 30k. I led the way through the entire single track section, which went until about 6 miles, then I had to stop and tie my shoe. Caught back up with Josh at about 7 miles and we started to pull away from everyone. We both grabbed a cup of water at the aid station at 7.4 miles and kept on going. I think I could've maybe taken a GU because I started to bonk a little later. I never really felt too bad though. I ran with Josh until about 8 miles then he started to pull away a little on the downhill. I was probably 100m behind him when we got back onto Old Highway 91 but the rest of the race was mostly uphill and he kept pulling away. I sort of struggled mentally and physically for the next few miles, but I shook it off and picked it up on the last one to finish strong. A lot of fun to switch things up with the guys. Great way to finish off the week and the quarter of school. It kind of got a little hectic with schoolwork last week, so it'll be nice to have this next week to relax. One more quarter of high school left, pretty crazy!

Selpt in a little late but got out for an easy 3. Spring break feels good.

Met out in Washington Fields with some of the team in the afternoon. We went out on the trails and did 10x:30 on the way back. Kinda hot out.

Something that grazed kale today: I'm quite certain that many a species munched on the leafy vegetable today, rich in vitamins K, A, and C. Kale has been increasing in popularity recently because of its special health benefits, and people across the nation are adding more of the cruciferous vegetable to their diet. According to the Washington Post, even the President dined on kale salad on Thanksgiving.

3 miles in the morning.

8 in the afternoon on the AZ Strip with some of the guys. Felt alright, calves bugging a little.

Something that blazed trail today: Today, I blazed trails, literally and figuratively. And I'm sure many others around the world made tracks through wild country.

Met as a team in the morning for the workout. The 3200 guys were doing 400 repeats, but me and Joe did the same workout as last monday. Some shorter quick stuff with good recovery. Tough workout, but I felt better than last week and I think I was a lot more relaxed too.

3 later in the evening.

Something that glazed well today: Around the country, hundreds, nay, thousands of bakers in donut shops glazed extremeley well, gently cascading the sugary glaze over the dough like a sweet, delicious waterfall.

Did 4 in the morning because I thought I would be late for practice in the afternoon because of work. Calves were hurting pretty bad.

4 more in the afternoon with some of the team. Only 5 others showed up today, still fun though. It's all about quality, not quantity.

Something that braised whale today: Whale meat is consumed in many countries around the world, including Japan, Greenland, and Norway. Some native Alaskan communities also eat the meat. I'm not sure if braising is the most popular way to cook the meat, but it is prepared in various ways, and braising could very well be one of them.

Yesterday about halfway though the run, my knee started to hurt a little bit. Later that night it would hurt anytime I bent my left leg while putting weight on it. It still hurt this morning so I didn't do the morning run, and just did 3 easy in the afternoon instead of the workout because I didn't want to chance things. It felt alright with the easy stuff, it only hurt when I would put weight on it at a certain angle.

Something that traced braille today: Fingers. But not just any fingers. The fingers of the blind. Although they are unable to see, they are still able to read. "How?" you may ask. The answer is braille. Louis Braille, the French inventor, musician, and teacher of the blind (who was blind himself from the age of three), devised the system of raised writing in 1830.

I woke up this morning and my knee was feeling better. The pain was still there a little bit but much better than on Friday and Saturday. Easy 3.

In the afternoon we had a workout on the track. The intervals were a little longer than usual, but the times weren't too quick so it wasn't a very tough workout. Finished with some quick 200s. Good workout, I was a little nervous with my knee but it felt fine.

8 in the afternoon out on the AZ strip for #trt. Honestly struggled a bit today. Calves were kind of bugging and I felt a little tired. Rolled out and iced tonight so that should help.

3 in the morning. Girls came. Hawt.

Track workout in the afternoon. Started off pretty easy just working into the faster stuff with a couple 200s at :33, then an 800 at the same pace, a little tougher but not bad. The rest of the workout got shorter and faster with each interval. 600 @ 1:30, 400 @ :59, and a 300 to finish the workout @ :41. Pretty good workout. My calves felt a lot better today. Weights after.

3 miles easy in the morning, then a long drive to Pheonix afterward. When we got to our hotel, it looked a little sketchy (we were next door to a marijuana store), so we ended up staying at Coach's brother-in-law's house.

4 miles on this trail just a few minutes away from the house. Pretty nice.

Around 2 miles for a shakeout run in the morning before watching Rachel run in the seeded 1600. She did great. Then we went back to the house and chilled. There wasn't a whole lot to do, so we watched some bball, wrestled a little bit, and snapchatted women. At about 5 we went back over to the track for the rest of our races. I ran my warm up alone and got back with barely enough time to throw my spikes on and get on the track, a little hectic. I ran in the first heat of the Elite mile. They lined us up really weird, so I was on the very outside stagger even though I had one of the fastest times in the heat. Didn't really matter though, and I got out good. I even led the first lap because no one else would really take the lead. Rest of the race went okay. I just sat in 3rd/4th until the last 200m and kicked but just missed the leader and got passed by another guy at the last second. The first 4 of us were within half a second so it was pretty tight. Ended up running the full mile in 4:26.79, and through 1600 at 4:25.25, which is about a second PR.  Not bad for a season opener (I don't really count Hurricane as the season opener), but lots of room for improvement. Cooled down a little by myself, then some with the 3200 guys before their race, and with Laynee and Rachel a little more after her race. The 3200 guys kicked butt. Jaiden ran 9:26 (new school record), Josh ran 9:33, and Sage went 9:44. Then Laynee went 11:22 (new school record). Pretty awesome meet for everybody. Excited for Pine View next week and to run against some in-state competition.

3 miles in the morning.

Workout in the afternoon on the track. Lack of sleep and the traveling over the past few days combined with wind and high temps today made for a pretty crappy workout so I won't delve into it too much. Was able to finish strong so that's one positive I can take from this workout, and I had fun getting swoll in weights after.

Pretty good race today. I wanted to just go out and run because I was a little upset with how yesterday's race went. My 800 speed still isn't quite where I want it to be, but it was okay. Still early in the season and got qualified for state which was the plan. Moving forward.

3 in the morning.

Workout in the afternoon on the track. Some thousands and then some cut-down finishes from 350 to 100. Thousands were tough, especially with the heat, and I was off a little on those. Worked on really finishing strong on the cut-downs. Legs still felt a little trashed from the weekend so rolling out and stretching tonight to help with that. Also, my Pegasus 31s have 666 miles on them, spooky.
