Kosmin in the afternoon. I did 1 min all out, 3 min rest, then 1 min all out. It's supposed to sort of predict what I can do an 800 in or something like that. First minute was good, I think I crossed the 400 in 56 or something, but the next minute I was pretty tired and barely made it around to the same spot. Was hoping to go a little farther on the second and thought I had a little more time but it wasn't too shabby. I think my legs might've forgotten what track feels like and they got a refresher today.

Workout on the track in the afternoon. Kind of a weird workout, I have mixed feelings about it. Good push though. My legs felt pretty trashed from the past couple days. Honestly have no idea what the total mileage was for this afternoon, I'm guessing with the warm up and cool down it was around 7?

Killer workout today on Webb Hill, very warm and wasn't able to get water until half way through the cool down! We originally planned for a track workout, but there was a soccer tournament going on at the high school so we had to move our workout to the hill (I was actually relieved a little, I wasn't too excited to go back to the track for the third time this week). The original workout was 3x400, 3x800, 4x200, but instead we did 3x1:30, 3x.5 mile, 4x:40. Hardest workout I've done for a long time I think. The recovery was especially hard because it was all running downhill, so my breathing recovered pretty well but my legs didn't quite as much. Felt really good on the 1:30s, then the .5 miles were a lot tougher and tested my endurance a lot more, and finally the :40s were nasty. Pushed 'em real hard and wasn't sure I'd make it back down the hill after the last one. Man I hate soccer.1.5 3 1 3.5

Track workout in the afternoon. We did 4x1600m repeats and 3x300m finishes. Pretty killer workout, I was totally drained afterwards. The 1600s were good but tough, especially the last one. 300s were pretty tough too. Really pushed the first and second ones, and pretty much just tried to survive on the last one. Good workout, definitely going to make me better. Around 8.5 total for the afternoon.

Easy 4 Kenyan run in the afternoon. Woke up this morning and my nostrils felt like they were burning and throat was pretty constricted like it was hard to get down a glass of water at the start. Things got a little better after breakfast but still felt pretty sluggish throughout the day. I hate getting sick. I feel like I've done pretty much everything I can not to, but I guess I wasn't able to hold it off with everyone around me being sick. Hopefully it'll just be a really short thing.

Felt a little better when I woke up this morning, still a little sluggish though. Had a bowl of lucky charms and a glass of water and that seemed to give me a fairly adequate amount of energy. Met out at Warner Valley for a sort of progression/tempo run with some of the team. We just did an out and back on the usual dirt road, slightly uphill for the first 2 miles, then slightly downhill for the next 1.5. First half was pretty chill, progressed from about 6:30-6:10. At the turn around, Coach told us to stay at that pace and then push the last 2 miles. The last 2 we were cruising, 5:43 and 5:17 for those miles. Overall, I felt okay, better than yesterday's easy run, but it was still a little tougher to breath and I had a bunch of gunk in my nose and throat. Pretty good push though, I need to work on my endurance and being able to push from more than a quarter mile out! :P

Pyramid workout on the track today. 4,8,12,16 and back down. Felt flat for pretty much everything after the first 400, which was pretty much the only one I was able to hit my time on. All out on the last 400, and I was able to run better than I though I would so that was good. I don't know what the heck's up with me lately. Wasn't able to get a lot of sleep this week because of  a bunch of schoolwork teachers are throwing in at the end of the quarter, so that might be it. Didn't get in a single morning practice in this week because of it, but I'll be able to turn it around next week and hopefully get back to where I should be.

Race day, so we took the morning off. We all ran the mile today. We did our warm up and some strides and I felt pretty good. It wasn't a qualifying meet, so I figured no one was going to run for time, just place, so my plan was just to tuck in and try to stay on the inside for the first few laps without letting the leaders get too far ahead of me, then use my kick on the last lap. The gun wouldn't fire for like the first 3 times so it took a while to start the race. Well the race went out exactly how I thought it would, and I tucked into about 5th or 6th place, pretty slow through 400, 1:12, and 800, 2:22, then we started to pick it up as people tried to get into position for the final lap, not sure what the split was for that lap. Ike and Josh ended up getting just a little too far out of my reach and I didn't have enough race left to beat them. I should've moved up a little more on the third lap, because I think I would've won had I been a little closer with 300 left. Not sure on the time, but I think someone said around 4:35, I will update it though when I figure out the official time. Pretty fun race even if it was a little slow. I felt relaxed and smooth so that was good. 2 miles tempo-ish afterwards, nothing too fast, then a mile cool down. Good day, fun to get back into racing.

Ran the Dirty Hurty Half Marathon today. Pretty sweet race, the trails out there are awesome. They shuttled us down from Unity Park to the starting line at about 5:45, and the race didn't start until 6:30, so we had to freeze our b*tts off for a little bit. We started the race off pretty chill, we ran behind Coach Fielding and Coach Holt until we hit the single track and I took the lead because they were doing the 50k and 30k. I led the way through the entire single track section, which went until about 6 miles, then I had to stop and tie my shoe. Caught back up with Josh at about 7 miles and we started to pull away from everyone. We both grabbed a cup of water at the aid station at 7.4 miles and kept on going. I think I could've maybe taken a GU because I started to bonk a little later. I never really felt too bad though. I ran with Josh until about 8 miles then he started to pull away a little on the downhill. I was probably 100m behind him when we got back onto Old Highway 91 but the rest of the race was mostly uphill and he kept pulling away. I sort of struggled mentally and physically for the next few miles, but I shook it off and picked it up on the last one to finish strong. A lot of fun to switch things up with the guys. Great way to finish off the week and the quarter of school. It kind of got a little hectic with schoolwork last week, so it'll be nice to have this next week to relax. One more quarter of high school left, pretty crazy!

Met out in Washington Fields with some of the team in the afternoon. We went out on the trails and did 10x:30 on the way back. Kinda hot out.

Something that grazed kale today: I'm quite certain that many a species munched on the leafy vegetable today, rich in vitamins K, A, and C. Kale has been increasing in popularity recently because of its special health benefits, and people across the nation are adding more of the cruciferous vegetable to their diet. According to the Washington Post, even the President dined on kale salad on Thanksgiving.

Met as a team in the morning for the workout. The 3200 guys were doing 400 repeats, but me and Joe did the same workout as last monday. Some shorter quick stuff with good recovery. Tough workout, but I felt better than last week and I think I was a lot more relaxed too.

3 later in the evening.

Something that glazed well today: Around the country, hundreds, nay, thousands of bakers in donut shops glazed extremeley well, gently cascading the sugary glaze over the dough like a sweet, delicious waterfall.

Did 4 in the morning because I thought I would be late for practice in the afternoon because of work. Calves were hurting pretty bad.

4 more in the afternoon with some of the team. Only 5 others showed up today, still fun though. It's all about quality, not quantity.

Something that braised whale today: Whale meat is consumed in many countries around the world, including Japan, Greenland, and Norway. Some native Alaskan communities also eat the meat. I'm not sure if braising is the most popular way to cook the meat, but it is prepared in various ways, and braising could very well be one of them.

Yesterday about halfway though the run, my knee started to hurt a little bit. Later that night it would hurt anytime I bent my left leg while putting weight on it. It still hurt this morning so I didn't do the morning run, and just did 3 easy in the afternoon instead of the workout because I didn't want to chance things. It felt alright with the easy stuff, it only hurt when I would put weight on it at a certain angle.

Something that traced braille today: Fingers. But not just any fingers. The fingers of the blind. Although they are unable to see, they are still able to read. "How?" you may ask. The answer is braille. Louis Braille, the French inventor, musician, and teacher of the blind (who was blind himself from the age of three), devised the system of raised writing in 1830.

I woke up this morning and my knee was feeling better. The pain was still there a little bit but much better than on Friday and Saturday. Easy 3.

In the afternoon we had a workout on the track. The intervals were a little longer than usual, but the times weren't too quick so it wasn't a very tough workout. Finished with some quick 200s. Good workout, I was a little nervous with my knee but it felt fine.

3 in the morning. Girls came. Hawt.

Track workout in the afternoon. Started off pretty easy just working into the faster stuff with a couple 200s at :33, then an 800 at the same pace, a little tougher but not bad. The rest of the workout got shorter and faster with each interval. 600 @ 1:30, 400 @ :59, and a 300 to finish the workout @ :41. Pretty good workout. My calves felt a lot better today. Weights after.

3 miles easy in the morning, then a long drive to Pheonix afterward. When we got to our hotel, it looked a little sketchy (we were next door to a marijuana store), so we ended up staying at Coach's brother-in-law's house.

Around 2 miles for a shakeout run in the morning before watching Rachel run in the seeded 1600. She did great. Then we went back to the house and chilled. There wasn't a whole lot to do, so we watched some bball, wrestled a little bit, and snapchatted women. At about 5 we went back over to the track for the rest of our races. I ran my warm up alone and got back with barely enough time to throw my spikes on and get on the track, a little hectic. I ran in the first heat of the Elite mile. They lined us up really weird, so I was on the very outside stagger even though I had one of the fastest times in the heat. Didn't really matter though, and I got out good. I even led the first lap because no one else would really take the lead. Rest of the race went okay. I just sat in 3rd/4th until the last 200m and kicked but just missed the leader and got passed by another guy at the last second. The first 4 of us were within half a second so it was pretty tight. Ended up running the full mile in 4:26.79, and through 1600 at 4:25.25, which is about a second PR.  Not bad for a season opener (I don't really count Hurricane as the season opener), but lots of room for improvement. Cooled down a little by myself, then some with the 3200 guys before their race, and with Laynee and Rachel a little more after her race. The 3200 guys kicked butt. Jaiden ran 9:26 (new school record), Josh ran 9:33, and Sage went 9:44. Then Laynee went 11:22 (new school record). Pretty awesome meet for everybody. Excited for Pine View next week and to run against some in-state competition.

3 miles in the morning.

Workout in the afternoon on the track. Lack of sleep and the traveling over the past few days combined with wind and high temps today made for a pretty crappy workout so I won't delve into it too much. Was able to finish strong so that's one positive I can take from this workout, and I had fun getting swoll in weights after.

Workout in the afternoon on the track. Some thousands and then some cut-down finishes from 350 to 100. Thousands were tough, especially with the heat, and I was off a little on those. Worked on really finishing strong on the cut-downs. Legs still felt a little trashed from the weekend so rolling out and stretching tonight to help with that. Also, my Pegasus 31s have 666 miles on them, spooky.

No morning run again. Wanted to get some extra sleep with the race later today and being sick.

Our school is hosting a multi and distance carnival meet, and it's a qualifying meet so Coach had us run the 3200 to get it qualified and out of the way early. We got to run at around 8:30pm under the lights so that was pretty sweet. The weather was pretty darn near perfect too, but it was super dusty from the wind earlier today. You couldn't even see Pine Valley through the dust. The whole thing was super nonchalant, just being on our track and with mostly just PV and DH guys. Mentally I think it felt more like a tempo workout than a race. We went out a little slow, 2:32-33 for the first 800, but picked it up and we were about right on at the 1600. I just stayed relaxed and hit 1:15s for the next few laps and picked it up a little on the last. Ended up qualifying with a few seconds to spare. Wasn't too stressed about place or anything, just wanted to hit the qualifying time, so it was a pretty good race. I have mixed feelings about the 3200.

Drove up to Cedar this morning for a workout with some of the team. A little chilly when we got there but it warmed up a bit. The workout was pretty good, my legs were trashed when we finished. I don't know if it was the elevation or just a hard week or what, but my legs had nothing in them after that last repeat. Solid week of training, and it's nice to be qualified for everything now so I don't have to stress about that at all. Good stuff today.

Panther Relays in the afternoon. I ran the 800 on our DMR team. Jaiden got us in the lead with the 1200 and we just stayed there the rest of the time. We broke the meet record, which is a super big deal. Probably bigger than region. Or state. My split was okay, but my calves were hurting before the race, and REALLY hurting afterward. 3 easy in the morning.

Race in the afternoon. Sort of weird. My plan going into the race was to get to the front and run with Jaiden, and we'd take it through 1200 at 3:15 and see what we could do on the last lap. I didn't get out as well as I'd hoped, still in about 5th which was okay, and we went through 400 at 1:05, on pace, so I didn't worry about moving up to push the pace. But we went through 800 at 2:15, so we slowed a lot, which I didn't notice. Moved around some guys on the third lap, and hit the bell lap around 3:21/22, and finished in 4:27 for second. Got passed by Jaiden on the final straight, dang! Hopefully we can get the pacing down, especially on the second lap, and run a fast time.

Snow Canyon today. Ran the 3200 with Sage and Bryson just to get some more experience if I run it at state. The weather was pretty nice for our race, not really windy, and a little cooler with the rain last night, so good conditions to run well. I took the spikes out of my racing shoes last night because I thought they would make my feet hurt more because it's a longer and slower race, but I didn't really think about the track being wet from the rain and the fact that the bottom of my spikes are pretty much all plastic, so I slipped a little at the start and got out bad and felt like I didn't have very good traction throughout the race, but it still went good. I was able to stick onto an Ogden guy who I felt like was going a good pace and then picked it up the last little bit. Ended up with a 9 second PR for 5th behind a bunch of Ogden dingos. On the cool down with Sage and Bryson, we found a little skate park and totally shredded for a little bit. #sk8ordie #shredthegnar

Really good effort for me today, and a great confidence booster going into BYU this weekend. I was able to hit the times, and hit the 600 time right on for the first time ever in practice. I've done this workout or something similar many times and that 600 is always the tough one, so this was a big workout for me. And I really felt it afterwards. Got super light headed and thought for sure I was going to throw up, but fortunately I didn't. #blessed

Went for a couple of shakeout runs earlier in the day to stay loose for my race later in the evening. 4:45 was the scheduled time for the race but they were a little behind so I think I raced a little after 5 or 5:30. I think I timed everthing really well, and I was in the bullpen for less than 5 minutes, which was a first. It seems like usually I'm in there for an hour. I was a little nervous at the line because I was the very outside person and I wanted to get out well, so I was a little tense and almost jumped before the gun. Got out into a good position, and stayed there for about 700m, but kind of got boxed in on the last turn and really tightened up last 100m, fell from 5th to 10th on the last straight. If I would have run 1 second faster I would have been 5th in my heat insted of 10th, and 6th overall instead of 13th. Overall, not a bad race, but I know I could've done better. I have put in some quality workouts the past couple weeks that are really going to help me at region and state. I just have to stay relaxed in the last 100m and trust it.

Relay workout thing in the afternoon. Pretty easy workout on paper, but my legs felt like trash today, probably from the race on Saturday and the bus ride back. But it was a good way to start the week and get the legs moving so I can be ready for region.

Some easy miles at the meet, didn't go as long as I planned because of the lightning delay.

3 easy in the morning.

Easy 4.5 miles for our gatorade run to Mr. D's. Pretty chill run and it was good to relax a little bit after a pretty busy week and before going into state next week.

Track workout this morning with the guys going to state. 6x400 and 2x150 finishes. Good turnover a week from state. Legs felt strong. Excited to finish off the year and my high school running career by giving it my best.

No morning practice for the rest of the week.

Had the AP stats test in the afternoon so I was super late to practice and had to run on my own. 4 miles easy.

Some easy mileage with 3x200m finishes after in Nephi on the way up to state. We were supposed to do 4x200 but after the third one, it started pouring almost instantly. Pretty crazy stuff.

First day of state. I ran the 1600 and it was a fun race. It was a little rainy so the track was wet and people were kicking up water the whole time, it was awesome. I knew it would be a super tactical race, so I did my best to be aggressive with my position, but got caught a little bit on the third lap, otherwise I think I could've taken at least second. Ran about 2:22 for the first 800 and closed in 2:07, with a 60 second last lap, so that was pretty sweet.

I could believe it, it wasn't strung out it was a tight pack.

3200- First race of the day, and it went alright. My plan was to be pretty passive with my position for the first 800m so I didn't waste any unnecessary energy at the beginning of a longer race like the 3200. I think I was in last place for 700m and I started to surge on the straights to pass people and work up to the lead pack. I finally caught up to them on the 5th lap, but only because we split around 1:20 for that lap, haha. There were a lot of pace changes, and I ended up falling a little behind again on the 6th lap. I felt way tired, but pushed hard the last 800 and was able to take 5th. Pretty fun race again, but I think I could've done better if I ran a little differently, but who knows.

800- Last race of my high school career! The plan was to just go out and stick with the leaders as long as I could. My start wasn't great, and I got forced to the very back in the first 200m. I haven't gotten out that bad since I was a sophomore! I didn't panic though and just told myself I had to go to plan B. I went through 800 in last place, and a little slow (:59), so I knew I would have a good kick. I started moving with 300 to go and passed people one by one, ended up 5th, half a second away from taking 3rd, so I think I was certainly capable of a top 3 finish if I had gotten out better.

Glad I got the chance to run at state this year and be part of another record breaking team! We scored 175 points, the 3A points record, while winning our 3rd straight state title in track. Pretty awesome experience.

First practice as a super senior, haha. Pretty much I will just be doing low mileage until I get my mission call and decide for sure whether or not I will do Speedgoat again. I only planned on doing 3 today but I was talking to Tanner and didn't realize we passed the 1.5 mile mark until we were already at 2, so I just decided to do the full 5. Felt pretty out of shape for the first half mile but got a lot better as the run progressed. Also lifted weights after and got super swoll.

Up a little late last night so I slept in instead of running with the team. Had to do some other stuff and didn't get out until 1 for just an easy 3. So hot.

Up a little late last night again so slept in, but decided to head up at the end of their practice to see how things were going. Coach wanted to run a few more miles so I ran up to the Spectrum with him. It's a lot nicer in the morning.

Ran 5 miles with the team in the morning. Pretty good. My call came in the mail yesterday and I opened it today. I have been called to serve in the Chile Rancagua Mission and I report to the Chile MTC on September 23. Super excited for this opportunity.

8 miles running/hiking in Pine Valley, super relaxed just to get back into it. Because I'm not leaving on my mission until September, I'll be doing Speedgoat in July, so hopefully I'll be hitting the trails often and spending more time in the mountains. My knee was bugging a little and hurts pretty bad now, probably because I freaked it out this week jumping into running and lifting like I did, but it's happened at the start of every season since I was a junior so it'll just take a few days to work through it.
