Today I ran the 800 at the Desert Hills Invite. I did a 1.5 mile warm up and some striders to warm up for the race. I got out fast and got really good position at the start. One runner went out way fast and ended up at a 1:56 but other than that, I sat on another runners hip who led the whole first lap. We came around at a 61-62 so I was about where I wanted to be for the first lap. On the backstretch, Jaren was the first one to pass us and I should have dropped the other runner and went with Jaren but I decided to sit for a little longer. I passed the other runner with about 75 meters to go but got outkicked by a few kids too. After the race my legs were tired but I'm still not satisfied and I think I still had a little kick left in me. Getting out into good position really helped me this race and made it a lot easier to run the time that I did. My goal for next race is going to be to try and go with Jaren on that last lap and not get passed in the last 100 meters. I got a 2.5 second PR which was good but I still need to cut a few seconds off to qualify for state. I don't think that was the best I could have done today, so hopefully if I keep working hard, and if I trust in my training and leave nothing left on the track, I will be able to qualify for state. That is my #1 goal this season.
